Hallo, my name is Karen Olesen and I have been breeding Lhasa Apsos under the prefix Fu-Kao since 1980. Fu-Kao means ‘Buddha’s little dog’. When I got my first Lhasa Apso (Fie) in 1979, I didn’t realise how drastically she would change my life!
Fie turned into a good show-dog and I caught the bug. Later on, Tintavon Oliver came to Denmark, and Fie had her first litter with him. This laid the foundations for the Fu-Kao kennel. My kennel is relatively small; I currently own five Lhasa Apsos. The dogs are my hobby and they live with me. Many of my family, friends and acquaintances also have Lhasa Apsos.
I occasionally breed - at the most, two litters per year - but only when I want to keep a puppy from a certain combination.
I like the original type of Lhasa and consider type the most important thing of all. I take my dogs to shows, but more because I enjoy showing rather than to win. I meet my friends at shows and get new input that I can use to improve the type of my Lhasa Apsos.
